Zomer / Summer 2016 Freebie and Tutorial

Na het Valentijns bloempotje met harten en het Paas bloempotje vol met eieren en haasjes is het nu tijd voor een Zomers bloempotje met vlinders en bloemen. De hortensia's uit de tuin zitten vol met grote bloemen en vaak zitten er vlinders op.
Met een foto uitleg om een koordje rondom het kussentje te maken. Het maakt een kussentje helemaal af!

After the Valentine flower pot with hearts and the Easter flower pot full of eggs and bunnies, it is now time of a Summer flower pot with butterflies and flowers. The hydrangeas in the garden are full of large flowers and butterflies often sit on the flowers.
With a picture explanation to make a cord around the cushion. It makes a beautiful finish!

Om een kussentje te maken is Hier een uitleg, ook om het op een andere manier te doen als je geen vierkant kussentje wilt maken.

To make a cushion is Here an explanation, to do it in a different way if you don't want to make a square cushion.

Als je het kussentje gemaakt hebt neem je bijpassend koord, naaigaren in de kleur van het koord en een naald met een scherpe punt. Het koord  moet minimaal anderhalf keer zo groot zijn als de omtrek van het kussen. Voor dit kussentje heb ik rollade touw gebruikt. Het is overal te koop neem alleen niet te dun touw. Gewone sier koorden zijn ook heel geschikt.

If you have made the cushion, take a matching cord, sewing thread and a needle with a sharp point. The cord must be at least one and a half times as large as the perimeter of the cushion. For this cushion I used kitchen rope for rolled meat. It is on sale everywhere in kitchenware stores and on the internet. Don't use too thin cord. Ordinary ornamental cords are also very suitable.

!! Het is een precisie klusje, neem je tijd ervoor want in het begin lijkt het moeilijk!

 Maar het resultaat is het echt waard.                         

!! It is a precision job, take your time to make because it seems difficult in the beginning!

But the result is really beautiful.

Begin in het midden bovenaan, hecht aan met een draad bijpassend naaigaren,  in de naad van het kussentje en steek de naald midden in het koord omhoog.

Beginning in the middle at the top, attach a matching sewing thread into the seam of the pad and insert the needle in the middle of the cord up.

Steek 1 of 2 mm verder in het koord naar beneden en trek de draad voorzichtig aan zodat je geen deuk in het koord krijgt.

Insert 1 or 2 mm further into the cord and pull the thread gently so you do not get a dent in the cord.

Neem een klein stukje van de borduurstof, dicht bij de naad, op en trek de draad er doorheen.

Take a small piece of embroidery fabric near the seam and pull the thread through it.

Daar waar je bij de stof omhoog gekomen bent steek je de naald in het koord. Let op; het koord niet strak trekken, maar neerleggen!

Where you came up with the fabric you insert the needle into the cord. Pay attention; pull the thread  not tight, but lay down!

Steek opnieuw 1 of 2 mm verder in het koord naar beneden en trek de draad weer voorzichtig aan. Ga op deze manier tot aan de hoek en neem in de hoek een steekje extra op zodat er geen gaatjes ontstaan. Het koord neerleggen in de hoek anders gaat het strak trekken.

Insert again 1 or 2 mm further into the cord and pull the thread gently again. Go this way to the corner and take a stitch in the corner extra so that no holes occur. The cord must lay down in the corner or it will pull it tight.

De hoek mag niet strak trekken.  

The corner should not pull tight.

Ga helemaal rond en leg het koord voor het begin koord. Steek nog eenmaal door het koord heen. Draai het kussentje om en hecht in de naad af. Maak er een strikje in en knip het overtollige koord af.

Go all the way around and place the cord for the start cord. Insert once the cord through. Turn the cushion over and tie-off in the seam. Make a bow and cut off the excess cord.

Nieuw patroon, New pattern

 BS 1923 met Delfts blauwe motieven.
Om mijn voorkeur voor Delfts blauwe tegels, de Hollandse merklapmotieven en het rode schoollapje van mijn moeder te combineren, heb ik dit patroon ontworpen.
Het is een beetje van mijn moeder die hield van tuinieren, vogels, natuur en de zee. In het patroon zijn dat de tuin en overal vogels, het water/de boot en haar alfabet. De huizen lijken een beetje op de St. Mariaschool in Naarden waar ze het lapje in 1923 geborduurd heeft bij de nonnen.
En een beetje van mij, want de huizen lijken ook een beetje op ons oude huis in Leiden uit 1902  en de tulpen en molens. Het hart en de levensboom verbinden ons.

To combine my preference for Delft blue tiles, Dutch sampler motifs and the red school sampler of my mother, I designed this pattern.
It's a bit of my mother who loved gardening, birds, nature and te sea. In the pattern you can see the garden and everywhere birds, the water / the boat and her alphabet. The houses seem a bit on the St. Maria School in Naarden where she embroidered her red sampler with the nuns in 1923.
And a little bit of me, because the houses look a bit like our old home in Leiden from 1902 and the the tulips and windmills. The heart and the tree of life connect us.

Na wat zoekwerk in oude albums en losse foto's kwam ik deze foto tegen van mijn moeder uit... 1923! Kijk eens naar die enorme strik in haar haar. :-))

After some research in old albums and loose photographs I found this picture of my mother in ... 1923! Look at that huge bow in her hair. :-))

Met veel plezier heb ik dit patroon ontworpen, want velen onder ons hebben eenzelfde verhaal over de rode school lapjes uit vroeger tijden. Voor anderen is het een klein stukje borduur geschiedenis over de Hollandse schoollapjes.

With great pleasure I have designed this pattern, because many of us have the same story about the red school samplers from earlier times. For others it is a small piece embroidery history of the Dutch school samplers.

Hollandse Humbug Holland Humbug

De nieuwsbrief van de Handwerk Boetiek is uit, vol met mooie patronen, boeken, series, leuke hebbedingen en gratis patroontjes. Dit keer mocht ik een interview geven hoe ik in de "borduur business" terecht ben gekomen. De vragen vond ik heel leuk om te beantwoorden en ik heb ook een patroontje speciaal voor deze gelegenheid ontworpen.

The newsletter of the Handwerk Boetiek is out, full of lovely patterns, books, series, cool gadgets and free patterns. This time I was giving an interview how I ended up in the "embroidery business." The questions I liked very much to answer and also I have designed a pattern specially for this occasion.
The newsletter is in Dutch but the patterns, freebies and images say enough to enjoy!

Nieuwe patronen.

Delfts blauwe tegels met Pauwen en Bloemen
Delft Blue Tiles with Peacocks and Flowers

Na een bezoek aan het Landgoed Staverden met z'n beroemde witte pauwen en mooie tuinen wilde ik deze graag in een ontwerp plaatsen. De pauwen en anjers zijn losjes gebaseerd op oude Hollandse merklap motieven. In de midden krans is plaats voor initialen of een jaartal. De voegen tussen de tegels zijn goed te zien door gebruik van color variation garen. Het kan ingelijst worden, maar als kussentje staat het mooi op een plank in de kast :-))

After visiting the estate Staverden with its famous white peacocks and beautiful gardens I wanted to capture them in a design.The peacocks and carnations are loosely based on old Dutch sampler motifs. In the middle wreath is room for initials or a date. The joints between the tiles are easy to see through the use of color variation floss. It can be framed, but as a cushion is nicely on a shelf of a sideboard or bookcase :-)) The pattern is also in English.

In dit patroon heb ik de liefde voor Delfts blauwe tegels gecombineerd met de letters en cijfers uit mijn moeders rode schoollapje uit 1923. De hoekmotieven zijn ossenkoppen uit ong. 1600 en op een speelse manier in het ontwerp verwerkt. In de midden tegel kunnen eigen initialen geborduurd worden. Ook is deze tegel door de hoekmotieven apart te gebruiken als ornamentje of een geur of spelden kussentje. Het patroon past mooi bovenop een vierkante houten [thee]doos van bijv. de Xenos.

This pattern, is a combination of the love for Delft blue tiles and the letters and numbers from my mother's red school sampler from 1923. The corner motifs are ox heads from approx. 1600 and incorporated in a playful way in the design. In the middle tile you may cross-stitch your own initials . This tile can also be used as a ornament or as a smell or pin cushion. The pattern fits nicely on top of a square wooden [tea] box. The pattern is also in English.

 Voor een verjaardag of een andere gelegenheid is het label leuk om aan een kado te hangen maar ook als kaartje te versturen. Het envelopje is geschikt voor een berichtje maar ook als kadootje met een bon of geld erin ;-))

Vakantie en meer :-) Vacation and more :-)

Na een heerlijke vakantie in Denemarken met prachtig zonnig weer, heb ik veel te vertellen.
After a wonderful holiday in Denmark with beautiful sunny weather, I have much to tell.

Tijdens de vakantie was het tijdschrift Merkwaardig op de mat gevallen met een interview over mijn "borduur perikelen" van de afgelopen jaren. Met een patroon van een speldenkussen met merklap motieven en letters en cijfers uit m'n moeders rode school lapje uit 1923.

During the holidays the magazine Merkwaardig was in the mail with an interview about my "embroidery ups and downs" of recent years. With a pattern of a pin cushion with sampler motifs and letters and numbers from my Mother's red school sampler from 1923.

Jeanny van Jeanny Merklapperie en nog veel meer heeft het speldenkussen 1 over 1 draadje geborduurd, zo mooi!!!

In de vakantie ben ik aan een borduur project begonnen die ik vorig jaar bij de Handwerk Boetiek gekocht had.

Het is The Pastoral van the Drawn Thread Designs een van mijn favoriete ontwerpsters. Het is een envelop voor borduurspullen en het patroon zit vol met speciale steken.......echt een vakantieklus!

During the holidays I started an embroidery project that I had bought at the Handwerk Boetiek last year.

It's The Pastoral of the Drawn Thread Designs one of my favorite designers. It is an envelope for embroidery items and the pattern is full of special stitching ....... really a holiday job!

En eindelijk het vakantie verhaal met de foto's.

We waren op het eiland Langeland en van daar uit hebben we veel uitstapjes gemaakt. Prachtig glooiend landschap met leuke vakwerkhuisjes in allerei kleuren. Overal is het strand dichtbij met prachtige vergezichten. En kleine haventjes met boten. Kastelen bezocht en oude graven bekeken. Veel kunst gezien in oude elektriciteits huisjes. Overal aan de kant van de weg worden tweedehands spullen op tafeltjes aangeboden. Ook brandhout en groenten, fruit en marmelade zijn populair. Tweedehands winkels zijn op het platteland niet nodig. En de bibliotheek komt gewoon langs! En heel veel stenen in allerlei formaten, de leukste die we gezien hebben waren de beschilderde stenen bij een kinder speelplaats :-))

And finally the holiday story with the pictures.
We were on the island of Langeland and from there we made a lot of trips. Beautiful rolling countryside with lovely half-timbered houses in all kind of colors. Everywhere is near the beach with beautiful views. And small ports with boats. Visited castles and ancient tombs and seen a lot of art in old electricity homes. Everywhere second-hand goods sold at tables on the side of the road. Also firewood and fruits,vegetables and marmalades are popular. Second hand stores are not required in the country. And the library just come along! Lots of stones in all sizes, the best we've seen were painted stones at a children's playground :-))
